Week 4 - American
This week, we decided to try American food and also replicate some of it ourselves. We started by eating burgers at Skyline burgers and we all made sure to get different ones so we could try a wide variety of burgers. They were large half-pound burgers which we thought was fitting and they had a lot of flavor on them. For the next food, we thought we couldn't get more American than barbecue so we went to Smok'n Grill where we tried the smoked tri-tip sandwich.
For cooking this week, we decided to make burgers on the grill instead of barbecue because it would have been easier to make given our level of cooking. We cooked standard burgers, and to our surprise, we liked them better than the ones from the restaurant earlier in the week as we felt like it was fresher. Overall, this week was a success in terms of trying and making new food.
This senior project as a whole was a great experience and an opportunity for me and my group to experience foods we would have never tried before while also learning how to cook them ourselves. In addition, we thought that this was a great way to experience the Portland food culture as a whole before we all depart to different cities around the country in the fall. I would recommend this senior project to other students as it was a fun way to expand our palette and learn more about the city and its culture as a whole.
Hi Rishi! Sounds like you enjoyed another rewarding week of eating and experimenting in the kitchen. I am interested in hearing your reflection about how working in a cohort of friends may have attributed to the success of and your overall satisfaction with this project. Do you think you would have achieved your initial goals had you chosen to work on your own?
